  • My Summer in a Nutshell (help i'm in a nutshell!)

In the past few months I have been:

    In San Diego-

Eating at Phil's, Tajima, Mona Lisa's, Sushi Ota, Flame Broilers (which is gross now), Pho, Golden Spoon, Pearl Dim Sum, Taste of Thai, Mondo Gelato, the Cottage, Wing night at Callahan's, Yogurt World, and many other delicious places. Here are some wonderful pictures~

Playing at the Zoo, seeing the Dead Sea Scrolls, playing bball with my old roomies, seeing old friends, experiencing Comicon, Kareoke-ing, going to the gym, laying by the pool, late night jacuzzi-ing, and watching tons of movies. Here are some more beautiful pictures~

By the way... my day at Comicon really deserves it's own entry, but I decided to put a couple fun pictures up in case I never get around to it (I was conned into taking the Jabba picture). Let's just say that 139,000 eclectic people mixed with explicit advertising, free stuff, and celebrities poses for an extremely interesting day out.

Anyway, San Diego was fun and relaxing, but it couldn't last forever. Last week I finally made the move down to Los Angeles, where I will be relinquishing the next 5 years of my life to the mighty trojan.

I love my new area, although I still have a lot of exploring to do. Supposedly everyone around this area is hip and trendy, so I may have trouble fitting in... Here is a picture of my new home and my view:

School starts on Monday... so I have a few days to practice this new concept called "School Spirit"

    Go football! I mean... USC!

  • Sicko

I think a lot of the time I forget that America's healthcare system is actually made up of privately owned companies, and like every other company in the US, the main goal is to make money. Therefore, essentially the more care these companies give, the less profit they make. Is this really the kind of ideology that we Americans want to put our life in the hands of? Something's not right.

I'm excited to see Michael Moore's new film "Sicko" (out June 29th). I believe that if anything else, the movie should promote discussion and hopefully, change. Millions of people don't have insurance because they can't afford it or are rejected from coverage. The rest of us who do have healthcare can easily be rejected from receiving expensive treatments or radical surgeries. Something seems a little unfair. From what I can piece together from trailers, it seems like Moore's answer to this problem is government funded universal healthcare. Lots of other "less powerful" countries have it, why don't we get on the bandwagon already?

Well... I know I still have a lot to learn about this topic, but isn't it true that America generates and houses many of the best medical physicians and research treatments in the world? It's hard to say that the lucrative opportunities available for physicians in the US don't play a role in this. It's sad to think that it takes the promise of money to create advancements in medicine, but to an extent it's very true.

So... while America's healthcare is FAR from perfect, I'm not sure if the answer is government regulated healthcare. There will always be different perspectives, which can be a good thing. While I will always see things from a patient's, or rather a "client's" perspective, Matt will eventually be working on the other side of the argument.

Hopefully with the attention from the movie and the upcoming election, we can try to figure out an answer to all this.

  • Use your good stuff

Along with cleaning out the storage, recently I've been purging my room of anything old or useless before leaving for school.

Over the past few days I've come across bath soaps, towels, lotions, notebooks, candles, and stationary... all really nice, and really old. I remember getting these presents and saving them years ago, hiding them in a drawer or displaying them if they were pretty, but never ending up using them simply because they were "really nice". I know I'm not the only one.

Of course, we always tell ourselves that we'll bring them out and use them for a special occassion, but when and if that ever happens, it seems that either we end up forgetting and buy another, or we find it outdated and stick it back in that drawer. So what's the conclusion?

Use it! If you're fortunate enough to get something "really nice" from someone, why not use it the moment you get it? Wrap yourself in those softy towels, lotion yourself up with high-quality lavender extract, and enjoy every flicker of that hibiscus scented candle. We're worth it, after all!

    If we don't, who will?
